Can A Wind Power Turbine Save You Money?

A wind power turbine is a piece of equipment that can be used to collect and convert the energy from the wind in to usable electric energy.

It is a combination of 2 or 3 propeller blades mounted on to a tall mast as high as possible, the higher the mast, the more energy is collected and converted to energy.

Certainly the wind movement as well as solar power is gaining more and more momentum as there are no other easily accessible methods of generating power available to the everyday public.

Erecting a wind power turbine is a great way to reduce bills and in some cases earn an income at the same time. Go here to read more about this fascinating subject - wind power turbine

Wind Power Turbine

A wind power turbine is used to convert kinetic energy from the wind to mechanical energy such as electricity. The amount of electricity generated from the wind is basically dependent on the size and make up of wind power turbine.

Large wind power turbine is designed to generate more than 100 megawatts of electricity and several pieces are installed in windfarms where clusters of wind power turbine installations provide power to a community.

Wind power turbine that are small in sizes and capable of producing smaller amounts of electricity, about a hundred kilowatts, are used to generate electrcity for homes, small businesses and farms. Smaller versions of wind power turbine which can produce 20 to 500 watts of electricity are very useful in charging batteries for use in electrical appliances and sailboats. Electricity generated from the wind may be used as the sole source of electricity, back-up electricity, or in combination with the use of utility power to reduce amount being paid to electric companies. This is how most homes start, augmenting wind power turbine output with electricity from the grid.

Wind Power Turbine Types:

The two types of wind power turbine installations are the wind power turbine with horizontal axis and wind power turbine with vertical axis. The more common type is the horizontal axis wind power turbine comes with a tailvane that is continuously pointing at the direction of the wind and therefore should be mounted directly aiming the wind. The vertical axis wind power turbine works whatever direction the wind comes from but must be installed in a larger ground space so that supports may be installed for the guy wires.

Small Wind Power Turbine

Small wind power turbine are used in a wide range of applications such as in residences (on-grid or off-grid), offshore platforms, rural schools, telecom towers, remote monitoring and other uses that needs electricity but the location has o electric grid or the unstable supply of electricity.

• Air Breeze Land 12Volt 200Watt Wind Turbine – is made of heavy-duty composite blades and is equipped with a microprocessor-based smart internal regulator that can track peak power. Power generated can be used to run home appliances such as washing machine, television, refrigerators, lights, and radio.

• Southwest Windpower Land Air X 12Volt 400Watt Wind Turbine – the composite blades are made from carbon fiber with castings of aluminum alloy, with internal battery charge regulator, and its best feature is the patented auto-brake that can slow down the blades to spin silently when the charging the batteries. Common applications include: telecom towers, remote cabins, monitoring stations, and for home appliances such as radio, lights, and television.

Large Wind Power Turbine

• SOMA 24Volt 1000W Wind Generator – is designed to provide electrical power to homes in remote areas. It can power lighting for the homes as well as home appliances such as water pump, television, radio, kitchen blenders, washing machine, refrigerators, and power tools. It is also ideal for telecom towers and research base stations due to its no maintenance feature and rugged durability.

• Proven 2.5 48Volt 2500Watt Wind Turbine with 6.5m Tower Kit – is designed with Proven Energy Flexible Blade System that allows wind power generation in strong wind or light wind conditions. The power it generates is enough to meet the electricity needs for a standard home with three bedrooms, not including the heating requirements. The explosion-proof feature of this wind power turbine makes it ideal for use in off-shore oil platform.

The wind can be effectively harnessed for electricity as proven by the use of wind power turbine installations. Technology for renewable energy, particularly wind, solar and water are being developed on many fronts. Homes, communities and cities will soon have these options available to them on a more mainstream scale.

What Are The Advantages And Disavantages Of Wind Power?

Whilst wind power sounds like it could be the perfect solution to global energy needs, there are many advantages and disadvantages of wind power.

Wind power is the energy generated by the wind which is captured and converted in to the electricity that we can all use in our homes and businesses. We as a planet are constantly on the lookout for more sustainable energy sources and wind power is one of the leading proponents of this movement.

The downside to relying on wind is that it is a natural force of nature. It would be like relying purely on rain water to run machines, there could be no guarantees that there would be constant supply and this is one of the biggest problems about adopting wind power in a big way.

How Has Wind Turbine Technology Progressed

It seems the whole world wants to go green right now or at least this is the message that our politicians and governments are promoting, but it is really as simple as this. Are there opportunities for the average man on the street to truly go green?

There are many choices to consider for the budding green energy hunter. Water power, wind power or sun power to name just a few?

But you can be sure there will be plenty more options to choose from as time goes by. All of these sources of energy are becomming more efficient and cost effective and one of the leading proponents of this is wind turbine technoloogy.

Throughout history, wind has been used for certain things for example to carry large ships across the ocean or to power the huge sails on windmills that rotated to grind corn and other grains for our foods.

What Are Renewable Energy Sources

Renewable energy sources are basically anything that doesn't expire once used. For example, lets look at a coal fire to illustrate this point

To start the fire you need to use paper, once it's burnt that's it... it's gone forever.

Next you'd use kindling to get the flames a little stronger, but again once the kindling has burned you'll never see it again.

So on with the coal to get a roaring fire. With every load of coal that goes on the fire, once used it is unusable again. This is NOT a renewable energy source, once burned it's gone for good. This coal has to be mined from the earth, so we are actually taking resources out of our ground and burning them. You can see how quickly this process could lead to shortages if all the houses in the world were still relient on coal for their fires.

So instead we look to renewable energy sources that won't run out. Sun, water and wind which can all be harnessed in some way to generate our energy needs. Go here to read more about this fascinating subject - renewable energy sources

Can We Calculate Wind Turbine Efficiency?

Ever wondered if it was possible to measure the power of the wind? Well it is and I'll show you how.

I've just added a really good page here all about measuring the power of the wind, it's entitled wind turbine efficiency and discusses ways in which it is possible to measure the strength and power of the wind.

By measuring the power of the wind it is then easy to determine whether a wind turbine is being efficient in its present position or not. Also whether there is enough wind over a period of time to make having more turbines in that same area a real benefit.

I show you a quick equation that can be used to calculate these facts .

This Is How Wind Turbines Work

Ever wondered how wind turbines work?

Doesn't it fascinate you that something as pure and natural as the wind can cause an object to turn and that object can then generate electricity for use in our homes and businesses?

Well this is true and it's not even a new concept. Many generations before us have been using the power of wind to make their lives easier. Windmills were the precursor to wind turbines and both work on a similar principle.

Our modern day 'windmills' have developed in to a very efficient and slimline energy source. It will be very interesting to see how they change in the future and how much more efficient they become.

Go take a quick look here to find out exactly how wind turbines work

Want To Know How Wind Energy Works?

We've been using them for hundreds of years and whilst the design and science behind them may have changed significantly the main basic principle of the windmill remains the same, but how does wind energy work and how can it generate electricity?

Well, it's actually quite straight forward, the wind blows the sails or blades around which turns a series of rotors inside the head of the turbine which then rotate fast enough to generate power.

Wind energy is clean, very cheap to create, but it's one main downside is the lack of consistency. There are no guarantees that wind will be available to turn the turbines in order to generate energy.

So if you've ever been sat there and wondered to yourself 'how does wind energy work, you should go and take a look at this page for a much better and fuller description.

Can Global Wind Power Solve Our Energy Crisis?

It seems the whole world wants to go green right now or at least this is the message that our politicians and governments are promoting, but it is really as simple as this?

Global wind wind power is a huge force that can surely be harnessed but it does have its limitations. For example you can't run a car on wind and cars are one of the biggest sources of pollution in the world today.

Throughout history, wind has been used for certain things for example to carry large ships across the ocean or to power the huge sails on windmills that rotated to grind corn and other grains for our foods.

Energy generation seems to be turning a full circle in that we are returning to some of the older ways of creating power albeit in a much more updated advanced and modern way. Doing this puts less pressure on our rapidly depleting stores of fossil fuels.

Global wind power has been developed in different countries and will continue to be encouraged as an alternative way of producing power without doing more damage to our one and only planet.

Wind Energy Facts You Need To Know

If you're considering investing in wind power, you need to know some important wind energy facts before you dive in.

Firstly and perhaps the key point is that wind power is fully renewable AND sustainable. Yes, it's possible that the earths climate will become calm and wind free, but I would argue that it's actually going to get even windier and more unsettled due to global warming etc.

The possibility of it running out is therefore impossible.  This is one great advantage of wind over other traditional sources of energy such as gas which only has a limited lifespan.

Another important factor in our list of wind energy facts is its very affordable cost.  This is due to the fact that wind is free.
